Enjoy life on the Akranes Peninsula!

Akranes is a choice holiday spot with many worthwhile places to visit and interesting things to do.Langisandurinn (The Long Sand) is without doubt one of the most attractive bathing beaches in Iceland with good public facilities for everybody who wants to swim in the sea.  Mt Akrafjall is easy to climb and a choice opportunity for family trips.

The folk tale of Elin enlivens the magic of a walk around Kalmansvík Inlet and, with the view over Faxaflói Bay all the way to Snaefellsjökull Glacier, is unforgettable.

The bird life is varied and the shore around Akranes is clearly a place to explore and experience many different adventures.  Visiting the Museum Area in Gardar is a must. It is one of the most popular sites in Akranes.  Take time to relax at Gardakaffi and visit the cutter Sigurfari, as well as the largest collection of thimbles in Iceland – and find out what the “Field Mouse” really was...

The townspeople are friendly and put themselves out to receive guests and travellers.  And don’t forget that it is advantageous to shop in Akranes with its wide variety of shops and services.

Historic Hvalfjordur Bay

Hvalfjordur is a great place to relax and enjoy the beatiful scenery in this area. There use to be a navy base in Word War II and then of course the whale station. Glymur waterfall lies in the bottom of the bay but he is the tallest waterfall in Iceland.
