The folk tale of Elin enlivens the magic of a walk around Kalmansvík Inlet and, with the view over Faxaflói Bay all the way to Snaefellsjökull Glacier, is unforgettable.  At Breidur, at the extreme edge of Akranes itself and below in the town is a memorial to the Mermaid Accident, a short way from the Old Lighthouse. Then it is also a must to visit the Museum Area at Gardar, one of the most interesting collections in Iceland. This is also the home of the mysterious Field Mouse and Iceland’s only cutter is preserved there as well.
