Láki tours

Winter whale watching from Grundarfjörður from 10th December - 31st March. For the past years, the herring has chosen the Snæfellsnes Peninsula as overwintering habitat, and right behind the fish are the killer whales. This phenomenon provides a golden opportunity to see (and hear) orcas as they are feeding, travelling, or socializing.

Puffin tour from Grundarfjördur from 1st June - 20th August. A nature reserve on the nearby island Melrakkaey attracts hundreds of puffins and other seabirds. It is wonderful to see puffins lined up along the edge of the cliffs like sentries on watch while the other birds wade and warble through the waves around the island with its basalt columns. A one-hour plus tour on Láki offers the maximum potential to see these furry creatures in their nesting environment. A slow cruise around the island gives photographers a golden opportunity to capture the variety of birds on the island through their lenses. This amazing trip is not just about birds - the setting for the trip with Mt. Kirkjufell dominating the scenery also lends enchantment to the view, especially on our sunset tours.

Sea angling and bird watching from Grundarfjörður from 1st June - 20th August. We head out for the nearby island, Melrakkaey, a nature reserve where many birds nest, such as puffins, shags, cormorants, kittiwakes and more. We sail close to the cliffs to get the best view and to photograph these beautiful ocean birds. Then we move into deeper waters for some sea-angling. Each passenger is given a fishing rod to try to hook a fish or two and for this, all necessary fishing equipment is provided. It is all action and excitement on board as the thrill of the chase is felt with passengers trying to catch a big one. The guides are always watching out for whales and if any are spotted, we´ll head towards them for a closer look.

The Summer Whale Watching Tour from Ólafsvík and Hólmavík. Láki Tours offers whale watching tours from Ólafsvík from 1st April - 10th October and Hólmavík from 15th June - 10th September. Nowhere else in Iceland is there a chance to see the Big Five, than along the Snæfellsnes Peninsula coastline: Blue Whale, Fin Whale, Humpback Whale, Minke Whale and Killer Whale. The landscape is magnificent around the Glacier and even more so from sea.

No tours from 11th October until 10th December.

Láki Hafnarkaffi is open all year round and offers light refreshments.

Kirkjufell mountain

Grundarfjörður's beautiful landmark is the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Its isolated position jutting out into the sea makes it a focal point for tourists and seamen alike. Surrounded by beaches, Kirkjufell has a lovely walking trail around it as well as a more challenging climb up to the top where bird and fish fossils can be found (guide is recommended).
