Hotel Framnes

Hotel Framnes is a waterfront hotel originally built as a fishermen's hostel in 1954. Since then it has undergone a few face lifts to make it the warm, cosy hotel it is today.
It is situated in Grundarfjörður, the central point of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. A small fishing village, Grundarfjörður's central locality makes it the perfect location for your stay here. Just a short distance from all the main attractions on the Peninsula, the Hotel is an ideal base for visitors to Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

There are 29 comfortable, bright rooms, all with private bathrooms in the main building and 8 budget rooms with private bathrooms in the new annex, about 50m from the main building. Each room has coffee and tea facilities as well as a television and hairdryer. Wireless internet is available throughout the Hotel for guests.
Rooms facing the west have a wonderful view of the mountain range called Hell's Gate which embraces the village. The east-facing rooms have a glorious sea view overlooking the fjord. A birdwatcher's delight.

The sauna and outdoor hot tub are always a great surprise for our guests. The hot tub has a view of the sea and is the perfect place to unwind after a hectic day.

Our dining room seats 60 guests and is a bright, cheerful area on the ground floor. The Hotel offers gourmet seafood as its speciality, as well as sumptuous Icelandic lamb and chicken. The chef´s creative skills are also revealed in the vegetarian dishes that are offered. Open every day between 1st June and 31st August. The restaurant may be open on some days during the winter months, depending on demand. Please make enquiries.

Kirkjufell mountain

Grundarfjörður's beautiful landmark is the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Its isolated position jutting out into the sea makes it a focal point for tourists and seamen alike. Surrounded by beaches, Kirkjufell has a lovely walking trail around it as well as a more challenging climb up to the top where bird and fish fossils can be found (guide is recommended).
