Traðir Guesthouse

Adjacent to Traðir Guesthouse you will find a camping site that features a good bath house and flushing toilets. A BBQ pit is also available for guests to use. If you need access to electricity you can plug your RV or camper into a 220v outlet. At Traðir Guesthouse you can enjoy refreshments at their coffee house / restaurant. They also offer fishing permits for the river Staðará and you can experience a guided horse back ride on the Icelandic horse.

Fengur horsrental is open May to September. With two locations, Traður Guesthouse and Kast Guesthouse in Lýsudalur valley, riding tours are offered of various length and riding skills. From Guesthouse Traðir, you'll be riding and racing on the yellow sand beach Löngufjörur, stretching as far as the eye can see with the famous Snæfellsnes glacier rising above in the distance, racing according to your own abilities. If you'd like to experience the lavaflows and caves of majestic Snæfellsnes mountains from horseback, you'll be riding out from Lýsudalur. Finally, it is possible to combine both tours, with Traðir being located just 14 km from Lýsudalur. Fengur horserental offers riding tours from one hour to day trips.

Snaefellsjokull national park is within your reach. At the park you can find beautiful scenery and historical grounds to view and experience.

Bjarnarfoss Waterfall

Bjarnarfoss is a majestic waterfall that falls down a basalt cliff which was formed by the now extinct volcano Maelifell. The waterfall, along with the columnar rocks around it, is on the Nature Conservation Register. A car park is near the waterfall and a good walking path. In 2018, the tourist attraction at Bjarnarfoss received the Icelandic Tourist Board´s environmental awards.

Ari-the-Wise served as a priest at Stadastadur from 1067-1148. He is well-known for his Book of Icelanders, the first work of history written in Iceland.

The place is also the setting of a very known novel by the Nobel price winning Icelandic author Halldor Kiljan Laxness: "Under the glacier".
