Miðvikudaginn 20.maí var haldin upplýsingafundur vegna almyrkvans en um var að ræða netfund í gegnum forritið Teams og var það Markaðsstofa Vesturlands sem boðaði fundinn til að miðla upplýsingum til samráðsvettvangs Vesturlands. Þar voru mætt fulltrúar lögreglunnar á Vesturlandi, HVE, Snæfellsjökulsþjóðgarði og frá sveitarfélögum á Vesturlandi en einnig voru þar þjónustuaðilar og áhugasamir íbúar sem vildu fá upplýsingar um almyrkvann.

Ferðamálastofa býður ferðaþjónustuaðilum og öðrum hagaðilum til viðburðar í tilefni af Global Accessibility Awareness Day, fimmtudaginn 21. maí n.k. frá kl. 10:00 - 11:00. Viðburðurinn fer fram á Teams og verður í beinu streymi en nauðsynlegt að skrá sig.

Exploring West Iceland Through the Eyes of Walter Mitty

Inspired by James Thurber’s beloved short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty follows Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller), a quiet employee at Life Magazine, as he leaves behind his ordinary routine and sets off on an unforgettable journey across the globe in search of a missing photograph by legendary photojournalist Sean O’Connell (Sean Penn). While Walter’s adventure takes him to places portrayed as Greenland and the Himalayas, Iceland becomes one of the film’s true highlights. Its dramatic scenery and breathtaking landscapes play a major role throughout the movie, making it one of the first major Hollywood productions to showcase Iceland so prominently. Filming took place in seven different locations across the country, from Seyðisfjörður in the East Fjords to Stykkishólmur on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in West Iceland.

Sævar Helgi Bragason mætir í þjóðgarðsmiðstöðina á Hellissandi, þriðjudaginn 12. maí og heldur opinn fræðslufund um Almyrkva á sólu sem mun eiga sér stað þann 12. ágúst 2026. Erindið er í boði Soroptimistaklúbbs Snæfellsness.

Vesturland fær tvo styrki úr Framkvæmdasjóði ferðamannastaða

Tvö metnaðarfull verkefni á Vesturlandi hafa hlotið styrk úr Framkvæmdasjóði ferðamannastaða fyrir árið 2026. Alls var úthlutað til 18 verkefna um land allt og nemur heildarfjárhæð styrkja tæpum 490 milljónum króna. Að þessu sinni var sérstök áhersla lögð á öryggi ferðamanna og endurspeglast það í þeim verkefnum sem fengu úthlutun.
