Snæfellsnes Park Excursions & Activity
Snæfellsnes Excursions is located in the heart of West Iceland, about 120 minutes drive from Reykjavík. We offer bus rental, Snow Track Buggy and beautiful nature tours around Snæfellsnes Peninsula.  Top of the DiamondSeason from Mars/April to August every year.We are now departing from 350 Grundarförður.This spectacular sightseeing excursion takes about 4 hours. We depart from Grundarfjörður and drive to the root of the glacier, that is a beautiful historical path on the north sight of the peninsula. Snowcat will then take you higher up on the glacier, Snæfellsjökull. The glacier rises 1446 meters above sea level. The mountain is one of the most famous sites in Iceland, primarily due to Jules Verne’s novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, in which an entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth is found on Snæfellsjökull. This glacier has a mystical force of nature and is one of the eight points of power in the world. These are always fascinating excursions with amazing view.It is important for travelers to realize that views from the glacier are naturally dependent upon local weather conditions at the given moment. It is very important to bundle up in warm clothes, good shoes, hat and gloves.Due to varying weather conditions in the area, we reserve the right to cancel the trip on short notice. Shark & Lava SafariWe depart from Grundarfjörður and end in Grundarfjörður. At first we stop at Kambur, There is to find a Keltic cross that carries great story about French fisher mans tragedy on see, and link/combine to gather Grundarfjörður and the French city Paimpol in friends community. Then we drive through Kolgrafarfjörður, known for it´s wild live, and mysterious view. Next up is Berserkjarhraun (Berserk Lava Fields). The rocky field gets its name from a part of the Icelandic Eyrbyggia Saga, & is as amazing and brutal just as the saga! The direction is then taken up Kerlingaskarð & then taken to Vatnaleið where we end op on viewing platform. Our last stop is at Bjarnarhöfn Shark museum where we will have coffee and cake. Private Tour - Snæfellsnes PeninsulaOur magnificent Local guided private tour around Snæfellsnes with a possibility of a stop on all off our historical locations. Of course it will be in your hands to pick a stops, but here are some places that we recommend for you to see.Djúpalónssandur (Deep Lagoon’s Sand) It is like stepping into a lava wonderland. There is to see a peculiar rock with a hole in it, called Gatklettur. Through the hole one can see Snæfellsjökull glacier, under good weather conditions. There are two small freshwater lagoons to see on the sand, Bishop Guðmundur góði or Guðmundur the Good (1161-1237) is said to have blessed this lagoon in his time, but he blessed many springs including the Maríulind spring at Hellnar and many others around Iceland.Lóndrangar. Uniquely-formed remnants of ancient basalt volcanic dikes sticking out from the sea. Londrangar and the hill Svalthufa are the remains of a crater, which has been eroded to its present form by the sea. The farmers in the area never made or make hay on the hill, because it is said to belong to the elves living in the area.Arnarstapi is one of our favourite places on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The extraordinary columnar basalt and cliff formations there are breathtaking, and one of Iceland’s most beautiful natural harbor’s is at Arnarstapi. The beach holds a spectacular attraction. It has an eroded circular stone arch, called Gatklettur, and three rifts, Hundagja, Midgja and Musagja. And off course you can’t miss the sculpture of Bardur Snaefellsas. Legend has it that he was half human and half ogre. His mother was human, but his father was half giant and half troll.Hellnar, in earlier times, Hellnar would have been in relatively large part fisheries-related farms and buildings. On the beach, some spectacular rock formations are to be seen, one of which is a protruding cliff called Valasnös, which reaches across the ocean front and into the sea. Tunneling into this cliff there is a cave known for colorful changes of lighting and shades that vary in tune with the natural light and the movements of the sea.In Hellnar you also find Gvendarbrunnar a.k.a. Mariulind you can taste excellent spring water which is said to have healing powers. Finally we have our famous Kirkjufell (Church mountain) and Kirkjufellsfoss. It is possible to climb Kirkjufell and it takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes or so to reach the top. The mountain is 463m high and stands on the north coast of Iceland’s Snæfellsnes peninsula near the town of Grundarfjörður.After that trip, you will be left with a hart full of joy and your mind blown with beautiful landscaping pictures, never seen before.
