Snæfellsnes Park Excursions & Activities
Snæfellsnes Excursions is located in Grundarfjörður, in the heart of West Iceland, about 2 hours' drive from Reykjavík. We offer snowcat and other sightseeing group tours around the Snæfellsnes peninsula, as well as private tours and bus rental service.  Top of the Diamond Snowcat Tour Available from March/April to August. The sightseeing tour starts at the foot of Snæfellsjökull glacier and takes about 2 hours. The starting point is located just off road F570, a scenic road that runs alongside the glacier. Here you find our minibus-café where you can meet our guide before your snowcat ascent to the top of Snæfellsjökull.  Snæfellsjökull rises 1446 meters above sea level. The mountain is one of the most famous sites in Iceland, primarly due to Jules Verne's novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth", in which an entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth is found on Snæfellsjökull.  This glacier is by many believed to be one of the earth's seven sources of spiritual energy and is considered a very mystical place in Iceland.  The view become more and more spectacular as you go towards the top of the glacier and they are just amazing from the very top, from where you can see the beauty of the surrounding Snæfellsnes peninsula.  It is important for travellers to realize that views from the glacier are naturally dependent upon local weather conditions at the given moment. It is very important to bundle up in warm clothes, good shoes, hat, and gloves as it can be quite cold on the glacier, even in the summertime. Due to varying weather conditions in the area, we reserve the right to cancel the trip on short notice or to offer an alternative shar and lava trip.  For those who cannot or do not want to drive to the meeting point, we can arrange transfer, so make sure you contact us as we have limited seats.  Shark & Lava Safari This out-of-the-ordinary tour starts and ends in Grundarfjörður, the town famous for the spectacular Kirkjufell mountain.  Driving along the coast and through fantastic fjords, we reach Bjarnarhöfn shark museum, the only museum in Iceland where you can learn about the traditional fermented shark, see how it is produced and taste it.  The tour then continues to Berserkjahraun, Berserk lava fields, a field of lava rocks covered in beautiful green moss. The history of the path that cuts through the lava field is connected to the Icelandic sagas, from which the lava field also gets its name.  This is an interesting tour to discover a beautiful part of Snæfellsnes and learn about Icelandic traditions and sagas.  Private Tours of Snæfellsnes Peninsula We offer a wide range of private tours that we can customize according to your needs. Snæfellsnes is often called "Iceland in a nutshell" for the variety of landscapes it offers, and a private tour is the best way to discover all the known and less-known gems in this part of the country.  Some of our farvourite spots? The black beaches in Djúpalónssandur, Lóndrangar's lava stacks, Arnarstapi with its spectacular sea cliffs and rock formations and, obviously, the famous Kirkjufell, the most-photographed mountain in Iceland, with its iconic shape.
Husafell Canyon Baths
Led by a knowledgeable local guide in English, this year-round tour begins with a short ride from the Hotel Húsafell to the trailhead in the remote Icelandic Highlands. On this 2-hour tour we enjoy a relaxed walk among natural wonders not found in many guidebooks, including the spectacular two-tiered waterfall Langifoss. We’ll also learn about Iceland’s renewable energy practices, cross an icy stream of glacial meltwater and see the site to Ok jökull, Iceland’s first glacier claimed by climate change. The highlight of our excursion is a serene soak in the recently completed Húsafell Canyon Baths, a surreal hot spring paradise that must be seen to be believed. Enjoy half an hour of relaxing, recharging and breathing in the pure Icelandic air before heading back to Hotel Húsafell.  While the tour is not technically demanding, it does require the participant to walk un-aided over uneven terrain as well as down 64 steps to the canyon floor to reach the baths.  Please contact for tours and booking information.
