Daníelslundur was the first forest in Iceland to be opened as an open-access forest in 2002. The forest offers a variety of well-maintained walking trails, providing visitors with plenty of opportunities to explore its natural surroundings.

Daníelslundur lies in the heart of the Borgarfjörður region, where the landscape is characterised by rocky ridges and low hills separated by marshy valleys. These ridges stretch from the mouths of the inland valleys towards the flatlands surrounding the Hvítá River and Borgarfjörður.
