Icelandic Nature Day – Celebrating the Nature of West Iceland
Across Iceland, a variety of events and activities are organised to mark the day. These include nature walks, educational activities, exhibitions and opportunities to learn more about Iceland’s wildlife, geology and natural heritage.

West Iceland is a true nature lover’s paradise, where diverse landscapes and rich ecosystems come together. Here, forests and lava fields, waterfalls and mountains, lakes and salmon rivers, islands and beaches, birdwatching areas and green spaces are all part of the landscape. These natural areas are not only important to local communities and visitors but also provide vital habitats for countless plants, birds and other wildlife.
Icelandic Nature Day is therefore the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and experience the natural beauty of West Iceland. Pick berries in the inner reaches of Hvalfjörður, admire the vibrant autumn colours of Einkunnir, look for Arctic char in Laxá in Dalir, discover the rich birdlife of the Breiðafjörður islands, explore the coastline at Djúpalónssandur or take in the spectacular views from Akrafjall.
Celebrate and enjoy the nature of West Iceland – today, tomorrow and every day!
