The campsite is located in the beautiful Sandahraun lava field on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. It features a modern service building with excellent facilities, including a kitchen, toilets (including accessible facilities), showers, and washing areas. Electrical hookups are available, and electricity can be rented on site.
Hellissandur also offers motorhome waste disposal facilities as well as access to hot and cold water. The Snæfellsjökull National Park Visitor Centre is located right next to the campsite, where visitors can learn more about the park, its unique geology, wildlife, and hiking opportunities.
A variety of scenic hiking trails begin in the surrounding area, and the nearby black-sand and rocky beaches offer plenty of opportunities to explore the coastline. The sunsets over Breiðafjörður, viewed from Sandahraun, are truly unforgettable. With Snæfellsjökull National Park on its doorstep, the campsite is an ideal base for discovering one of Iceland's most spectacular natural landscapes.
